The first
book of the Three Doors trilogy. The walled city of Weld is under attack from
ferocious flying creatures that raid the city during the night, bringing
destruction and death. Volunteers are wanted to go fight the skimmers away and stop
the enemy from bringing them in for good. The heroes are called to the wall,
one by one. Rye, although his compassion to go is strong, he is much too young
to fight. His brothers are another story though, and they decide to fight for
their city. Rye later realizes that before they have been called, his brothers
were nowhere to be found, and he must find them.
After Leo’s
Great Aunt Bethany died, he received a family heirloom, a music box. There are
four major rules to this box, you must turn the key exactly three times, never
wind the box when the music is playing, never move the box when the music is
playing and never close the lid before the music stops playing. Not soon after
Leo received the box, his cousin Mimi came to visit, along with her beloved
dog, Mutt. She was sour, sarcastic and extremely short-tempered. Not
surprisingly, she ignored Leo’s instructions and wind the music box four times,
forcing the blue queen to rise. She informed Mimi, that for generations, she
has been using the Key of Rondo to travel between worlds. She wasn’t successful
in luring her into Rondo and so captured Mutt and took him to Rondo, leaving
behind the ‘key’, a ring.
